Hon. David J. Szymanski (Ret.) was a judge for the Wayne County Probate Court in Michigan. He joined the bench in 1991. Szymanski retired in 2010.
During his judicial tenure, he served as the Chief Judge Pro Tem of the Probate Court in Wayne County, and he held an assignment in the Estates Division, where he heard cases involving decedent estates, trusts, guardianships, and conservatorships.
Prior to joining the bench, Szymanski was an attorney at Clark, Hardy, Lewis, Pollard & Page (1986 to 1990) and Goldpaugh & Associates (1982 to 1986). His areas of practice included criminal defense, employment, school district, divorce, probate, traffic infractions, juvenile, personal injury, and family law matters.
Szymanski received a B.A. in English, U.S. history, and education from the University of Notre Dame in 1976. He went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 1982.
Szymanski was admitted to practice in Michigan (1982), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (1982), and Florida (1983).
Following his retirement, he became the chief deputy treasurer for Wayne County.
His late father, the Hon. Frank Szymanski, and his brother, the Hon. Frank S. Szymanski, both sat as judges in Wayne County.
