Judge David Krathen: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. David Krathen (Ret.) was a judge for the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Broward County. He was elected to the bench in 2002. Krathen retired in 2012.


He held an assignment in the Civil Division, including the Extended Trial Unit and the Domestic Violence and Dependency Divisions.


Prior to his election, Krathen managed his own private practice, the Law Offices of David Krathen, P.A., since 1974. His areas of practice included personal injury, medical malpractice, and product liability, including Mass Torts litigation. Krathen received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is board certified as a civil trial attorney. Before establishing his firm, he was a public defender with the Office of the Public Defender for the 17th Judicial Circuit (1972 to 1974).


Krathen received a B.B.A. from the University of Miami. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law. Krathen was admitted to practice in Florida in 1972.


Following his retirement, he joined Upchurch, Watson, White & Max as a mediator in 2013.
