Judge DeAnne M. Hilgers - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. DeAnne M. Hilgers is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Court of Minnesota. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Dayton on January 3, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Diane R. Alshouse.

Hilgers has chaired the Ramsey County District Court’s Court Corrections Committee. She also sat on the Equal Justice Committee and the Interpreter Workgroup.

Prior to her appointment, Hilgers was a partner at Lindquist & Vennum, where she specialized in immigration law. She supplemented her practice with service as a volunteer attorney for the Advocates for Human Rights.

Hilgers earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She then completed a J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law.

After graduating from law school, Hilgers began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Michael Kirk of the 7th Judicial District and the Hon. Russell Anderson of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Her memberships have included the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Redeemer’s Arms, and the Board of the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. She has also volunteered with From Houses to Homes and reported for The Forum (Fargo, North Dakota).

Raised in Ramsey County, Hilgers attended Mounds View High School. She is the granddaughter of a truck driver, a farmer, and a concrete finisher.
