Judge Debra L. Krause - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Debra L. Krause is a judge for the Seminole County Court in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida. She was elected to the bench in 2012.

Krause has presided in the Criminal Division. She was publicly reprimanded by the Florida Supreme Court on June 26, 2014, for alleged unethical campaign activities in 2012. The allegations stemmed from a campaign donation she received from her husband that exceeded the amount allowed by family members. Krause was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine. Then, on February 25, 2015, the Florida Supreme Court recommended she be suspended for thirty days without pay for Facebook comments she made about her husband's opponent. On March 20, 2015, Krause agreed to the suspension.

Prior to her election, she worked as an attorney in private practice.

She received an A.A. from Seminole Community College and a B.S.B.A. from the University of Central Florida (1997). Krause then spent time working in the construction industry and was a manager at Arby’s and a management trainee at Enterprise Rent-A-Car before completing a J.D. at Stetson University College of Law in 2004. As a law student, she interned at the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office.

She was admitted to practice in Florida in 2005.

Krause was born and raised in Brockport, New York. At the time of her election, she resided in Altamonte Springs with her husband, Mitchel B. Krause, a fellow attorney, and their three children.
