Judge Dee Johnson - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Dee Johnson is a judge for the 47th District Court of Texas. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott in 2022.

The 47th District Court includes Armstrong, Potter, and Randall Counties.

Prior to her appointment, she was a partner and of counsel at Packard, Hood, Johnson & Paul, LLP, having joined the firm in 1997. Her areas of practice included civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance defense in first and third party liability cases. Before joining the firm, Johnson was an associate at Underwood, Wilson, Beffy Stein & Johnson, PC (1993 to 1997) and Colaneri & Renwick (1991 to 1993).

She received a B.A. in political science and government from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1987 Johnson went on to complete a J.D. at St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1990.

After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a briefing attorney for the Hon. Lawrence Meyers with the United States District Court for the Second District of Texas.

Her memberships have included the Amarillo Bar Association, the Texas Bar Foundation, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Amarillo Women’s Bar Association, and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.

Johnson has also been involved with the Amarillo Republican Women’s Club, the High Plains Republican Women’s Club, the West Texas Epilepsy Foundation, the Amarillo Symphony Guild, and the Lone Star Ballet Guild.

She and her husband, Mike Peters, a local dentist, have two children. The family attends St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Amarillo.

A lifelong Republican, Johnson considers herself a constitutional conservative.
