Judge Denis P. Cohen - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Denis P. Cohen is a judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. Cohen was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tom Ridge in 2000. He was subsequently re-elected in 2001 and 2011.

Prior to his appointment, Cohen served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office from 1976 to 2000.

Cohen earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed a J.D. at Boston College Law School.

His memberships have included the Philadelphia Bar Association. He sat on the Board of Governors as well as the Criminal Justice Section.

Cohen is the son of David Cohen (deceased), a former Philadelphia City Councilman. His brother, Mark B. Cohen, sits as a judge for the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia.
