Judge Dennis C. Eckold - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Dennis C. Eckold is an associate judge for the 6th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jay Nixon on May 6, 2010, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Gary Witt to the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Prior to his appointment, Eckold owned and operated Dennis C. Eckold & Associates, a law firm he established in 1999. Before that, he briefly worked as an attorney and office manager at Watkins, Boulware, Lucas, Miner, Murphy & Taylor (1996 to 1999).

Eckold earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1979. He spent the next year working in insurance sales for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. before completing a J.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Eckold entered into private practice. He started as an attorney at Duggan, Keleher & Svetlic. He worked in that capacity until 1986, at which time he joined Norton, Pollard & Norton. He then entered into private practice as a sole practitioner in Gladstone.

His memberships have included the American Judges Association, the Platte County Bar Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. He also sat on the Board of the Missouri Association of Treatment Court Professionals and the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners.

He is a recipient of the Outstanding Public Official Award from Tri-County Mental Health Services (2013), the Service Award from the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners Office of Citizens Complaints (2003), and the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (2004).

Eckold was born in Elkhart, Indiana. When not presiding over legal proceedings, Eckold is actively involved with the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Eleemosynary Society of Platte County.
