Biography

The Hon. Devin P. Cohen is a Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2018. At the time of the election, Justice Cohen had served as an Acting Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court since being appointed to the seat in 2014 by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York.

Justice Cohen’s judicial career began in 2009 when he was elected to serve as a judge for the Kings County Civil Court.

He graduated with his B.S. in music and philosophy from Indiana University in 1990. Cohen went on to earn his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1995.

Cohen began his legal career as an associate with the law firm Fuchsberg and Fuchsberg after graduating from law school. In 2002, he became a sole practitioner at his own law firm while also serving as of counsel at Fuchsberg. Cohen maintained both positions until his election to the Kings County Civil Court in 2009.

Cohen became an adjunct instructor and assistant coach for the Judo program at New York University in 2013. He is a certified USA Judo coach and an International IJF-A Judo Referee with the International Judo Federation. Besides serving as a Judo coach and referee, Cohen has also served on the Board of Directors of USA Judo, the US Judo Federation, and the New York State Judo, Inc.

At the beginning of his legal career, Cohen was a certified emergency medical technician and served as a certified EMT instructor and coordinator for the New York State Department of Health.

His civic contributions have included serving in various capacities with the Park Slope Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. in Park Slope, New York, and as first vice chair of the Brooklyn Community Board 6, and an executive board member of the Friends of Brooklyn Community Board 6, Inc.

Cohen also served as a mediator and coach for Safe Horizon.
