Judge Edward T. McLoughlin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Edward T. McLoughlin is an acting justice for the Dutchess County Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York. He was initially elected to the Dutchess County Court in 2015. Then, in 2017, he was appointed by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks to serve on the Dutchess County Supreme Court.

McLoughlin earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at Pace University School of Law in 1992 as well as an M.P.A. at Marist College in 2011.

Prior to his election to the bench, McLoughlin served in the Office of the District Attorney of Dutchess County. He entered as an assistant district attorney in 1992. Three years later, he was promoted to Senior Assistant District Attorney. Then, in 2003, he became its justice court bureau chief, a position he held until his election to the bench.

McLoughlin is a recipient of the Williams Associate Honors Award from the New York State police as well as the Police Benevolent Association President’s Citation Award from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

He has taught as an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Marist College.

McLoughlin was raised in Dutchess County, graduating from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1982.
