Judge Eleanor L. Bush - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Eleanor L. Bush is a judge for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. She was elected to the bench on November 5, 2013.

Bush earned a B.A. in history from Yale University in 1982. She then completed J.D. from Yale Law School and an M.P.P.M. from Yale School of Management in 1988.

After graduating from law school, Bush relocated to Philadelphia. She began her legal career as assistant counsel for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. She served in that capacity until 1993, at which time she joined the Juvenile Law Center as a staff attorney.

In 2001, Bush moved to Pittsburgh, where she became the legal director of KidsVoice. Then, in 2004, she briefly served as an independent consultant for the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law before becoming a legal services training specialist for Family Design Resources in 2005. During her tenure with Family Design Resources, Bush provided training for the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network.

Bush has received endorsements from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as well as the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers. Her election campaign supported marriage equality, adoption equality, and custodial equality for the LGBTQ community.

She was born and raised in New York.
