Judge Elizabeth Egan: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Elizabeth Egan is a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court in California. She was elected to the bench in March 2020. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Alan Simpson (Ret.).

Egan received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego. She went on to earn a J.D. from San Joaquin College of Law in 1995.

Prior to attending law school, she worked as a volunteer rape crisis counselor.

After completing her law degree, Egan joined the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, where she held assignments on the Misdemeanor Team, Juvenile Unit, Felony Trials, Domestic Violence Unit, and the Narcotics Unit, before being elected to serve as the District Attorney of Fresno in 2002. She served as its District Attorney until 2015. At the time, Egan held the distinction of being the first woman to hold that position.

While on the bench, she has presided on the Juvenile Dependency Court.

In 2007, she received the Woman of Distinction Award from Soroptimist International of Clovis.
