Judge Emory L.Palmer - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Emory L. Palmer is a judge for the Coweta Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. He was elected to the bench in 2012.

The Coweta Judicial Circuit is comprised of Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup Counties.

Prior to joining the bench, Palmer was a partner at the law firm of Carr & Palmer, where he had practiced since 2003. At the firm, he handled complex commercial litigation and professional liability cases.

Palmer was also admitted pro hac vice in several state and federal jurisdictions across the country.

He received a B.S. in international affairs from Georgetown University in 1995. Palmer went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1999.

He was admitted to practice in Georgia, all Georgia State Courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, and the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

His memberships have included the State Bar of Georgia, the Coweta Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute.

After graduating from Newnan High School in 1987, Palmer enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his military service, he served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and participated in amphibious operations in Kuwait and the Persian Gulf. During Desert Storm, Palmer was deployed with the Marine Corps Signals Intelligence detachment for the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and earned his parachutist wings.

His civic contributions have included acting as a cub scout den leader for Pack 41 of the Boy Scouts of America and as a baseball and football coach.

Palmer and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons. The family resides in Newnan where they are members of Newnan First United Methodist Church. The couple is also active supporters of Angel’s House.
