Judge Eric Allen Marks - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Eric Allen Marks is a judge for the General Division of the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Mike DeWine on February 19, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Myron C. Duhart to the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals.

Prior to his appointment, Marks was the owner of the Marks Law Office. He opened the law firm in 2005, where he specialized in criminal defense, family law, and appellate matters. During this time, he also served as an assistant public defender for the Felony Division of the Toledo Legal Aid Society (2011 to 2021).

Marks earned an associate’s degree in history from Ohio State University (1999) and a bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young University (2001). He then completed a J.D. at the University of Toledo College of Law in 2005. As a law student, Marks was an extern for the Hon. Patrick J. Foley of the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas and the Hon. James G. Carr of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio as well as a law clerk at Cheek & Zeehandelar.

His memberships have included the Toledo Bar Association, the Lucas County Bar Association, the Maumee Valley Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Ohio State Bar Association.

A resident of Toledo, Marks is an Eagle Scout and has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for over twenty years.

He is registered as a Republican.
