Judge Frank A. Fregiato - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Frank A. Fregiato is a judge for the General Division of the Belmont County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Kasich on July 24, 2013, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jennifer L. Sargus.

Prior to his appointment, Fregiato presided as a judge for the Belmont County Court, a position to which he was selected in 1997. Before that, he was a partner at Fregiato, Myser & Davies (1977 to 2013). Fregiato also spent time as solicitor for the Village of Belmont (1979 to 1984) and the Village of Brookside (1984 to 2013), law director for the Village of Bellaire (1994 to 1995), and special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office (1995 to 2013).

Fregiato earned a bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University in 1973. He then completed a J.D. at the Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1977. He was the Articles Editor for the Ohio State Law Journal.

His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Belmont County Bar Association (president), and the National Italian-American Bar Association. He also sat on the Ohio State Bar Banking Committee and Ethics Committee, and he has been involved with the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce and the St. Clairsville Rotary Club.

He is a recipient of the Purple Aster Award (2005) and the Outstanding Achievement Award (2003) from the Sons of Italy.

Fregiato was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He and his wife, Cynthia, have two children. They attend St. Mary’s Church.
