The Hon. Gerald G. Johnston is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Pete Wilson on December 29, 1998, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Richard Luesebrink.
Johnston attended the University of Redlands, where he earned a B.A. in English in 1980. He then earned a J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1984.
Johnston began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County in 1984. He worked in the Office of the District Attorney until 1995, eventually becoming a Senior Deputy District Attorney with the Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit as well as the Chairman of the Hazardous Materials Strike Force. In 1995, former governor Pete Wilson appointed Johnston to Assistant Secretary for Law Enforcement and Counsel for the California Environmental Protection Agency. He held this position until his appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County in 1998.
Johnston has worked as an environmental law instructor at the University of California, Irvine from 1991 to 1993.
Johnston is married with two children. He has been a resident of Corona del Mar, California.
