Judge Gina Dashman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Gina Dashman is a commissioner for the Contra Costa County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2020.

Dashman has presided over traffic, unlawful detainer, small claims, and restraining order matters. She initially split her time between the Pittsburg and Martinez courthouses.

Prior to her appointment, Dashman was an equity partner at the law firm of Haapala, Thompson & Abern LLP. She first joined the firm as an associate in 2009 and was later named a partner in 2014. Her areas of practice included civil litigation with an emphasis on real estate, landlord-tenant and personal injury. In 2003, her practice expanded to include a mediation practice, at which time she began mediating court-referred and private cases, including civil disputes involving real estate, personal injury, contracts, and partnerships.

In addition, Dashman presided as a pro tem judge and settlement mentor in Contra Costa County.

Before joining the firm, she was of counsel at Stein, Rudser, Cohen & Magid (2002 to 2009); an associate and partner at Buresh, Kaplan, Jang & Feller (1988 to 2002); and an associate at Epstein, Becker & Green (1986 to 1988).

Dashman received a B.A. in social science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983. While at university, she spent part of her senior year in Cape Town, South Africa, researching the local Jewish community and the challenges it faced under an Apartheid regime. She went on to complete a J.D. at The George Washington University Law School in 1986.

Dashman has held memberships with the Women Lawyers of Alameda County (past president) and the Contra Costa County Bar Association (Board of Directors).

She was also a past treasurer of the Contra Costa County Bar Association’s Women’s Section.

Dashman was born in Manhattan, New York, and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey. She grew enamored with Northern California while attending university and later moved to the state permanently after graduating from law school.

She and her husband have two children. In her free time, Dashman enjoys traveling abroad, spending time with friends and family, trying out local restaurants, attending concerts, and exercising.

At the time of her appointment, she was residing in Orinda, California.
