Judge Glenn H. Yamahiro - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Glenn H. Yamahiro is a judge for the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in the First Judicial District of Wisconsin. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jim Doyle in 2003.

Yamahiro has held assignments in the homicide court, general felony, domestic violence court, drug treatment court, veteran's court, misdemeanor court, and small and large claims civil court. He also presided as a court commissioner in Milwaukee County (1999 to 2003).

Prior to beginning his judicial career, Yamahiro was a partner at Cornwall, Rhiel & Yamahiro (1995 to 1999). Before joining the firm, he spent four years as an assistant public defender in Milwaukee (1991 to 1995).

Yamahiro received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1983. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1991.

After graduating from law school, Yamahiro began his legal career as a law clerk for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (1991).

He has taught as a faculty member of the Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence and served on the boards of the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation, the Access to Justice Commission, Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, and the Ovation Jewish Home and Care Center.

He identifies as Asian-American as well as Jewish and Irish. His wife, the Hon. Isa Yamhiro, is a family court commissioner for the Milwaukee County Circuit Court. They have two children.
