Biography

The Hon. Howard M. Maltz is a judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2012, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Wendy Berger to Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal.


The 7th Judicial Circuit encompasses Flagler County, Putnam County, St. Johns County, and Volusia County. Maltz has held assignments in St. Johns County, presiding over cases in the Civil and Criminal Divisions.


Maltz earned a B.A. from the University of Florida in 1982 and completed his J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1986.


After graduating from law school, Maltz began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit. He worked in that capacity for ten years, eventually leaving to join the Office of General Counsel for the City of Jacksonville. During his fifteen year tenure there, he handled many high-profile cases for the city, many of which included police shooting lawsuits.
