Judge James D. Worton - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. James D. Worton is a judge for the Bartholomew County Superior Court in Indiana. He was elected to the bench on November 6, 2012.

Prior to his election, Worton was a managing partner at Worton & Rohde, a law firm based in Columbus. During his tenure there, he specialized in family law matters.

Worton earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He then completed a J.D. at Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

His memberships have included the American Judges Association, the Indiana Judges Association, the Bartholomew County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Bartholomew County Substance Abuse Council, and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. He has also been involved with the Columbus Rotary Club and the Columbus Free Methodist Church.

Raised in Bartholomew County, Worton attended Columbus North High School before graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He spent the next twenty years with the Columbus Police Department, spending four of those years as its Chief of Police.

He is registered as a Republican.
