Judge James W. Brown - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. James W. Brown is a judge for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas (Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014 and was re-elected in 2018.

Brown received a B.A. in political science from Ohio State University in 1979. He went on to complete a J.D. at Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1982.

Prior to his election, Brown maintained a solo practice for over thirty years. During that time, he gained experience in family and juvenile law. He also practiced alongside his father until his father’s retirement in 1992 and later practiced with his brother, Jeff.

He was raised in Upper Arlington and is a graduate of Upper Arlington High School. Growing up, his father, Wilmore Brown, worked as a domestic-relations attorney. Brown and his wife, Holly, have two grown children.

He is registered as a Democrat.
