Judge Jane B. Emons - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jane B. Emons (Ret.) served as a judge for the New Haven Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. Emons was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jodi Rell in 2010. She was removed from the bench in 2018 and became of counsel at Cohen & Wolf.

Over the course of her judicial career, Emons held assignments as the Presiding Family Judge in the Stamford Judicial District, the New Haven Judicial District, and the Milford Judicial District.

Prior to her appointment, Emons was an assistant state attorney general for the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office, a position to which she was named in 1996. She specialized in family and employment law matters.

Emons earned a bachelor’s degree from Kirkland College (1971) and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1972). She then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1977. She is admitted to practice in Connecticut, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

After graduating from law school, Emons began her legal career as a law clerk to the New Haven County Judicial District Superior Court. She served in that capacity until 1978, at which time she became an assistant state’s attorney for the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office in New Haven (1978 to 1988).

She was a resident of Woodbridge, Connecticut, at the time of her appointment. She is registered as a Democrat.
