The Hon. Janene Beronio is a judge for the Yolo County Superior Court in California. She was elected to the bench in 2014. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Stephen L. Mock (Ret.).
Judge Beronio received her bachelor's degree from Loma Linda University in 1971. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1978.
After graduating from law school, Beronio worked as a staff attorney with SEARCH Group Inc. (System for the Electronic Analysis and Retrieval of Criminal History Records) for two years.
Then, in 1980, she left private practice to join the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, where she served as a deputy district attorney until 1989. During her tenure with the D.A.'s office, Beronio served as supervisor of the D.A.'s Davis and Broderick branch offices and was also assigned to the Felony Trial Team.
In 1989, Beronio was selected to serve as the first court commissioner for Yolo County. She remained in that position for nearly twenty-five years. During her tenure as a court commissioner, Beronio presided over various assignments which included traffic, juvenile, arraignments, and family court, as well as misdemeanor and felony criminal proceedings.
Judge Beronio was born in Chicago, but her family moved frequently as a result of her father's service in the U.S. Air Force. At the time of her election to the bench, she and her husband Robert, a retired Davis police officer, lived in Winters, California.
