Judge Janet J. McGuiggan: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Janet J. McGuiggan is an associate justice of the Worcester District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2010.

Prior to her appointment, McGuiggan served as assistant city solicitor for the City of Worcester Law Department (1997 to 2010). During her tenure there, she rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Senior Litigator (2005) and Head of Litigation (2006). Before that, she spent two years as an associate at Reardon & Reardon (1995 to 1997).

McGuiggan earned a bachelor’s degree from Assumption College in 1990. She then completed a J.D. at Wake Forest University School of Law in 1995.

Her memberships have included the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Worcester County Bar Association, and the National Association of Women Judges. She also sat on the District Court Committee on Mental Health & Substance Use Disorders, the District Court Education Committee, and the Supreme Judicial Court Committee on Judicial Ethics.

McGuiggan was born in Holden, Massachusetts.
