Judge Jeffrey L. Thorne: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Jeffrey L. Thorne is a judge for the La Porte County Superior Court in Indiana. He was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014.

Prior to his election, Thorne was managing partner at Sweeney, Winski, Dabagia & Donoghue, LLP. He first entered private practice in 1978. Thorne also served as an attorney for the Town Council of Michiana Shores, Pottawattomie Park, and Long Beach and also represented the Michigan City Board of Aviation Commissioners.

He received a B.A. from Indiana University Bloomington. Thorne went on to complete a J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law in 1978.

He was admitted to practice in Indiana (1978), the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana (1978), the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

His memberships include the La Porte County Family and Children Services, the Michigan City Junior Achievement, the Michigan City Samaritan Center, the Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Michigan City Historical Society, and the Michigan City Red Cross. Thorne is also a past president of the Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce and has volunteered his time with the Talk to a Lawyer Program.

Thorne attended Elston High School.

He is registered as a Republican.
