Hon. Jill Landes (Ret.) was a judge for the Jefferson County District Court in Washington. She was elected to the bench in 2006. Landes retired in 2018.
She received a B.A. from California State University, Fullerton in 1973 and obtained her teacher's certification from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1975. Landes then spent time as a sex offender treatment specialist at the Hiland Mountain Correctional Facility in Alaska, a rape crisis center counselor and coordinator, and a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Botswana before completing a J.D. at Seattle University School of Law in 1993.
Prior to her judicial career, she worked as a city attorney prosecuting domestic violence cases in the Criminal Division for the City of Tacoma in 1994 before becoming a prosecutor with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. As such, Landes worked as a misdemeanor deputy prosecuting attorney in Pierce County, a chief criminal deputy prosecuting attorney in Jefferson County, and a senior deputy prosecuting attorney in charge of the Juvenile and District Court in Clallam County. During her time in Clallam County, she was a member of the Drug Court team and supervisor of the Diversion Unit.
Landes sat on the advisory board of the YMCA, was a board member of the Jefferson County Community Foundation, and a member of Noon Rotary.
She was also a past president of DV/SA Jefferson County and an instructor at the Police Reserve Academy.
Landes, a native of Hollywood, California, grew up in Los Angeles. Upon her retirement, she hoped to travel and devote more time to volunteer work.
