Biography

The Hon. John A. Kutzman is a judge for the 8th Judicial District Court of Montana in Cascade County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Steve Bullock on June 16, 2015, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kenneth Neill.

Kutzman has presided over the 8th Judicial District Juvenile Drug Treatment Court.

Prior to his appointment, he was a partner at Paoli Kutzman, PC since 2005. Before that, Kutzman worked as an assistant attorney general for the Montana Department of Justice (2005) and was a staff attorney at Dorsey & Whitney, LLP (1997 to 2005) and an associate at Thueson & Lamb (1992 to 1997).

He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Terry N. Trieweiler with the Montana Supreme Court.

Kutzman received a B.A. in political science from the University of Montana in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Montana, Alexander Blewett III School of Law, in 1991.
