Biography

Hon. John C. Grace is a judge for the 72nd District Court of Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2022.

The 72nd District Court includes Lubbock and Crosby Counties.

Prior to his election, Grace was an assistant city attorney for the City of Lubbock since 2010. Before joining the City Attorney’s Office, he worked for over nine years as an assistant criminal district attorney with the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office (2001 to 2010).

Grace received a B.A. in journalism, broadcasting, and film from Trinity University in 1985. He went on to complete a J.D. at St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1993.

After graduating from law school, Grace began his legal career in solo practice in San Antonio, where he remained until relocating to Lubbock in 2001.

He is a past president of the Lubbock Area Bar Association, chairman of the College of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, and chairman of the council of the Government Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Grace is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Grace was born and raised in Midland, Texas. He and his wife, Jill, have one adult daughter. They also care for their two cats and two dogs.

Grace, a lifelong Republican, identifies as a conservative.
