Judge John R. Lasater - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. John R. Lasater is an associate circuit judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court (Division 38) of Missouri. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Eric Greitens in 2017.

The 21st Judicial Circuit includes St. Louis County.

During his judicial tenure, Lasater has presided over Custody & Divorce in the Family Court.

Prior to his appointment, he worked for twenty-three years as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Lasater also presided as a provisional municipal judge for the City of Kirkwood and served as a municipal prosecutor for the City of Olympian Village (1998 to 1999).

He began his legal career as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Carl Gaertner with the Missouri Court of Appeals (1991 to 1993).

He received a B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. Lasater went on to complete a J.D. at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 1991. He was admitted to practice in Missouri (1991) and Illinois (1992).

He was a past president of the Lawyers Association of St. Louis and the St. Louis County Bar Association. Lasater also served on the Missouri Bar Board of Governors.

From a civic standpoint, he has been active with the Boy Scouts of America (adult leader and troop committee member) and the Wisconsin Alumni Club in St. Louis (treasurer).

At the time of his appointment, Lasater resided in Kirkwood with his wife, the Hon. Julia Pusateri Lasater, an associate circuit judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court, and their two children. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood.
