Judge Jose S. Franco - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jose S. Franco is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on November 17, 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James P. Kleinberg.

Franco earned a B.A. from Boston College. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1998.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Franco served as a deputy public defender with the Office of the Public Defender of Santa Clara County. During his fifteen-year tenure there, he supervised the Juvenile Justice Unit from 2011 to 2015.

He has also taught as an adjunct lecturer at the San Jose State University Department of Justice Studies.

Franco was born in Gilroy, California and graduated from Gilroy High School in 1991.

Franco is registered as a Democrat.
