Judge Kenneth L. Gillespie - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Kenneth L. Gillespie is a judge for the Broward County Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist on January 7, 2009.

Over the course of his judicial career, Gillespie has held assignments as a visiting associate judge for the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal and served as the Probate Administrative Judge.

Gillespie earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Memorial University in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law (1995) and an LL.M. at Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of Florida in 1996.

After graduating from law school, Gillespie began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity until 1999, at which time he became a senior trial attorney for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Then, in 2004, he was selected to serve as a general magistrate for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida.

He is a recipient of the Elected Official of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Workers and the Judicial Advocate of the Year Award from the Broward County Guardian Ad Litem Office (2013).
