Biography

The Hon. Kevin E. Dunleavy is a judge for the San Mateo County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on July 9, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Clifford V. Cretan.


Dunleavy earned a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1988.


After graduating from law school, Dunleavy joined the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks, serving as a senior deputy district attorney and the Chief Assistant District Attorney (2009). He also sat as the Director of Recruitment and Development, where he was tasked with hiring and training new lawyers for the office.


Born and raised in San Mateo County, Dunleavy attended Junipero Serra High School. He was a resident of Millbrae, California, at the time of his appointment.


He is registered as a Democrat.
