Judge Kevin G. DeNoce - Comprehensive Profile: Analytics, Rulings & Recent Cases

Biography

The Hon. Kevin G. DeNoce is a judge for the Ventura County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2007 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Herbert Curtis (Ret.).

Judge DeNoce received his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He went on to earn his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.

While in law school, DeNoce clerked at the U.S. Attorney's Office with the Organized Crime and Racketeering Strike Force in Las Vegas. After his experience there, DeNoce determined that the prosecutorial side of the law appealed to him. He then accepted a position as a deputy district attorney for the Ventura County District Attorney's Office in 1987. While at the D.A.'s office, DeNoce was instrumental in helping to draft legislation that allowed for the use of preliminary breath tests and also argued for the admissibility of the results in court. He would become a supervising attorney for the D.A.'s Appellate Division in 1992 and a senior deputy district attorney for two years beginning in 1994.

Then, in 1996, DeNoce left the public sector to become a partner at the Law Offices of Andrade and DeNoce LLP, where he specialized in criminal defense, DUI defense, and personal injury matters. In 2003, he opened the Law Offices of Kevin G. DeNoce in Ventura, where he would serve in solo practice for four years until becoming a judicial officer in 2007.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, DeNoce served as a court commissioner for the Ventura County Superior Court for one year.

While on the Superior Court, Judge DeNoce served as the supervising judge for the civil division in Courtroom 43, where he presided over general and complex civil cases.

As a judge, DeNoce seeks out every opportunity to cite the law, especially when ruling on an issue, and also appreciates when counsel provides case authority. He maintains a personal website that seeks to assist attorneys and potential litigants with information on his court rules and rulings as well as pending cases.

He has served as past-president of the Ventura County District Attorney's Association and of the Criminal Justice Attorney's Association of Ventura County.

He was named the Judge of the Year in 2017 by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association. He also received the Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
