Judge Kimberly M. Esmond Adams - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Kimberly M. Esmond Adams is a judge for the Fulton County Superior Court (5th Judicial Administrative District) in Georgia. She joined the bench in January 2009.

Prior to joining the judiciary, Esmond Adams worked for almost six years as a chief senior assistant district attorney with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, where she handled major felony cases involving homicides and crimes against women and children. Esmond Adams became a prosecutor there in 2002.

Before that, she practiced as an employment attorney at the national labor and employment boutique, Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC.

Esmond Adams received a B.A. in political science from Howard University. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Notre Dame Law School.

She has held memberships with the National Association of Women Judges, the National Bar Association Judicial Council (Board of Directors), the Gate City Bar Association (Executive Board member and past chair, Judicial Section), the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (past president), the Leadership Atlanta Board of Trustees (Executive Committee), the Foundation of Wesley Woods (Board of Directors), Foreverfamily, Incorporated National Advisory Board (chair), the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (past board member), the Atlanta Technical College Foundation (past board member), the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys Foundation, Inc. (past board member), and the Restorative Justice Board of the Atlanta Municipal Court (past board member).

Esmond Adams also sat on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Judicial Section and was a past board member of its Women in the Profession Section. In addition, she was a former board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, West End Cluster, and is a member and past officer of Cascade United Methodist Church.

Among her many accolades, Esmond Adams was named an Unsung Heroine and received the Pioneer Award from the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (2017), a Woman of Excellence by the MECCA Chapter (2018), and a National HBCU Pre-Law Hall of Fame Honoree (2018).

She is an alumna of both Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Georgia.

Esmond Adams was born in Nashville, Tennessee. After moving to DeKalb County, Georgia, at the age of fifteen, she went on to graduate from Redan High School.

She and her husband, Michael, have an adult son.
