Judge L. Eric Johnson - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. L. Eric Johnson is a judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Brian Sandoval on April 2, 2015.

Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Emporia State University in 1980. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Johnson began his legal career as a Special Attorney for the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the United States Department of Justice. He served in that capacity until 1989, at which time he became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Nevada. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force (2003 to 2013) and Chief of the Criminal Division (2013 to 2015).

His memberships have included the Kansas Bar Association.

He is a recipient of the United States Department of Justice’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He has also received commendations from the Tokyo Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Public Safety of the People’s Republic of China for his work handling international money laundering and forfeiture prosecutions.

Johnson is a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church. He serves as Chairman of its Staff Parish Committee.
