Biography

The Hon. Lisa A. Novak is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Phrasel L. Shelton.

Novak earned a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University. She then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1992.

She began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of San Mateo County in 1992.

Then, in 2001, she left the public sector in order to become a sole practitioner in her own private practice, where she handled civil litigation and criminal defense cases until her appointment to the bench.

Novak was born in Tacoma, Washington but raised in Northern California.

She is registered as a Democrat.
