Judge Lorie N. Savin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Lorie N. Savin is a judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Michigan in Oakland County. She was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020.

During her judicial tenure, Savin has presided over the Family Division.

Prior to her election, she was a referee in the Family Division of the Sixth Circuit Court, where she had worked since 2003. Before that, Savin was in private practice as an associate at Mooney & Gilboe (2001 to 2003). Her legal career also included working as a senior staff attorney at Jackson County CASA in Missouri (1997 to 2001) and an Ameri Corps attorney and mediator with Legal Aid of Western Missouri (1996 to 1997).

Savin received an A.B. in political science and sociology from the University of Michigan in 1992. She went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 1995. She was admitted to practice in Missouri (1995), Michigan (2001), and Kansas (1996).

Savin is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and Oakland County Bar Foundation.

Her other memberships have included the Referees Association of Michigan (past president), the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan, the Women Lawyer Association of Michigan, the Women Officials Network, and the Michigan Inter-Professional Association on Marriage, Divorce & the Family.

Savin was appointed to the State Bar of Michigan Judicial Ethics Committee and Professional Standards Steering Committee. She has also served on the Oakland County Bar Association Family Law Committee and the State Bar of Michigan Workgroup on Professionalism and its Family Law Committee.

She has contributed articles to various publications, including the Michigan Bar Journal, the Michigan Family Law Journal, Latches, and Referees Quarterly.
