Biography

Hon. Louise Alderson (Ret.) was a judge for the Fifty-Fourth District Court (A) of Michigan in Ingham County. She was appointed to the bench in 2001. Alderson retired on January 12, 2022.


During her judicial tenure, she served as Chief Judge of the Fifty-Fourth District Court (A), a position she was appointed to by the Michigan Supreme Court in 2014. Alderson was Chief Judge Pro Tem before that (2006 to 2013). In addition, she presided over the Sobriety Court since its inception in 2005.


Alderson received a B.A. from Michigan State University in 1980. She went on to complete a J.D. at Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1986. She was admitted to practice in Michigan in 1987.


Alderson was a former board member of the Michigan District Judges Association, the Ingham County Treatment Courts Foundation, and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
