Biography

Hon. Margaret M. McCartney is a treatment court commissioner for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court (Division 68) of Missouri. She was appointed to the position in 2022.

The 21st Judicial Circuit includes St. Louis County.

McCartney has also presided as a traffic court commissioner.

Prior to joining the bench, she was the director of career services for Washington University School of Law (1996 to 1999). Before that, McCartney worked for six years as an assistant circuit attorney for the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney’s Office (1990 to 1996), where she held an assignment in the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit (1993 to 1996).

She received a B.A. in history from Purdue University in 1987. McCartney went on to complete a J.D. at Indiana University, Maurer School of Law in 1990.

She is a past president of the Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater St. Louis.
