Judge Maria Cavalluzzi: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Maria Cavalluzzi is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2019, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. John S. Wiley, Jr. to the California Court of Appeals.

Prior to her appointment, Cavalluzzi was a trial attorney and managing attorney at the Law Offices of Cavalluzzi & Cavalluzzi. Before that, she managed her own private solo practice for two years (1999 to 2001).

In the public sector, Cavalluzzi had worked as a deputy public defender with the Law Offices of Los Angeles County Public Defender (1988 to 1999) and a trial attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office (1987 to 1988).

She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Loyola Marymount University in 1984. Cavalluzzi went on to complete a J.D. at Southwestern Law School in 1986.

She was admitted to practice in California (1987) and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
