Judge Maricela Moore - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Maricela Moore is a justice for Place 4 of the 5th Court of Appeals of Texas. She was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022.

Prior to her election, Moore was a judge for the 162nd (Civil) District Court in Dallas County, a position to which she was named in 2017. In that capacity, she held assignments as the Local Administrative District Judge for Dallas County as well as the Presiding Judge of Civil Jury Services.

Moore earned a B.S. in management from Boston College in 1997. Then, in 2001, she completed a J.D. at the George Washington University Law School. She is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

After graduating from law school, Moore entered into private practice. She started as an associate at Cowles & Thompson (2001 to 2003) and Baker & McKenzie LLP (2004 to 2008). She then moved to the Siewczynski Law Firm, where she worked as an owner until 2010. At that time, she became a partner at Farrow-Gillespie & Heath. She worked in that capacity until 2014, at which time she started her own private practice as a sole practitioner.

During her tenure in private practice, Moore specialized in the litigation of commercial, employment, contract, trade secret, non-competition agreement, and other complex civil matters. She was also tasked with investigating potential ethical and legal violations by executives and employees of national banking associations, publicly traded companies, and public associations.

Her memberships have included the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation, the Dallas Bar Association, the Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the Mac Taylor Inn of Court. She has also served as president of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, the Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation, and the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas.

Moore was named Trial Judge of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates (2019). She is also a recipient of the Dallas Bar Association's Jo Anna Moreland Outstanding Committee Chair Award (2012).

Born in Austin, Texas, Moore is fluent in English and Spanish. She attends St. Thomas Aquinas Church and is a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She is registered as a Democrat.
