Biography

The Hon. Mark S. Coven is First Justice of the Quincy District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Michael Dukakis in 1989.


Over the course of his judicial career, Coven held assignments as an associate justice of the Somerville District Court (1989 to 2000).


Coven earned a bachelor’s degree from Union College in 1972. He then completed a J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 1975.


After graduating from law school, Coven spent time as a deputy attorney general for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, a senior attorney for Greater Boston Legal Services, and an assistant secretary for the Massachusetts Office of Health & Human Services.


His memberships have included the Massachusetts Judges Conference. He is a recipient of the Franklin N. Flaschner Award from the Judicial Division of the American Bar Association.


Coven was born in Brookline, Massachsuetts.
