Judge Michael R. Pearson: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Michael R. Pearson is an associate judge for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He joined the bench in August 2009.


Prior to beginning his judicial career, Pearson was a senior trial attorney in the Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office (2007 to 2009). He was also a former assistant state’s attorney with the office (1999 to 2004). In between his positions there, Pearson practiced as an associate at Bennett & Bair, LLP (2004 to 2007).


He received a B.S. in finance from the University of the District of Columbia in 1994. Pearson went on to complete a J.D. at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in 1998. He was admitted to practice in Maryland in 1999.


His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association (Board of Directors), the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association (Board of Directors), and the Black Men of Maryland, Inc. Pearson has also sat as a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Sentencing Alternatives, Re-Entry, and Best Practices.


His civic involvement has included the Northridge Recreation and Homeowners’ Association, the Prince George’s County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Christmas in April, and the Law Ministry at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church.


Pearson was born in Washington, D.C.
