Judge Michael T. Mullen - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Michael T. Mullen is a Circuit Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. He was elected to the bench in 2012 and re-elected in 2018. Judge Mullen is currently assigned to the Chancery Division (Calendar 8).

Mullen earned a B.A. from Marquette University. He completed his J.D. at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1981 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year.

After being admitted to the Illinois Bar, Mullen served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General from 1982 to 1985. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois 1985 to 1991 and was named Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. Prior to his election, Mullen was in private practice, working as a partner at Paul B. Episcope LLC for seventeen years. He specialized in personal injury, medical negligence, and product liability matters.

He is a recipient of the Special Achievement Award for Sustained Superior Performance from the United States Department of Justice (1988, 1990) and the Trial Lawyer Excellence Award from Jury Verdict Reporter (2012).

His memberships have included the Illinois Judges Association and the Western Golf Association.

Mullen is a registered Democrat.
