Judge Michael T. Vough: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Michael T. Vough is a judge for the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench in 2011.

During his judicial tenure, Vough was named president judge of the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas in December 2019. He also presided over non-criminal matters in the civil court rotation before transitioning to a criminal caseload.

Vough received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Scranton in 1986. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 1989.

Prior to his election, Vough worked as a private practice attorney and an assistant district attorney with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. He entered private practice in 1991 and joined the District Attorney’s Office a year later, working concurrently in both positions. Additionally, Vough acted as a solicitor for the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, a position he assumed in 1998.

He was a former basketball coach and athletic director at St. Mary’s Assumption School and a former solicitor and chairman of Make A Wish Foundation.

Vough and his wife, Cindy, have four children. At the time of his election, he resided in West Pittston. He is a graduate of Pittston Area High School.

Vough is registered as a Democrat.
