Judge Nancy L. Fineman - Comprehensive Profile: Analytics, Rulings & Recent Cases

Biography

The Hon. Nancy L. Fineman is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on November 2, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Joseph E. Bergeron.

Fineman earned an A.B. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. She then continued her studies at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she completed a J.D.

She began her legal career as an associate at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold, an insurance defense firm, in 1986. Three years later, she moved to Cotchett, Pitre and McCarthy LLP. She entered the firm as an associate but eventually rose to partner in 1996. During her tenure there, she performed a brief stint as a research attorney for the Superior Court of San Mateo County from 1992 to 1993.

Fineman has served as president of the San Mateo County Women Lawyers Educational Foundation as well as a trustee of the California State Bar. She has also been a member of the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Committee and the San Mateo County Bar Association.

Fineman is registered as a Democrat.
