Judge Nancy Watkins McLaughlin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Nancy Watkins McLaughin is a circuit judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit Court (Divison 21) of Missouri. She was appointed to the position in 2016.

The 21st Judicial Circuit includes St. Louis County.

Prior to her appointment, McLaughlin was an associate circuit judge with the court, a position to which she was appointed by former Governor Jay Nixon in 2014. She has presided over Family Court as well as associate civil, circuit civil, and circuit criminal matters.

Before beginning her judicial career, McLaughlin was in private practice. She was also a former law clerk to the Hon. David J. Dixon with the Missouri Court of Appeals.

McLaughlin received a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in 1978. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Missouri School of Law in 1981.

Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the National Conference of State Trial Judges, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the St. Louis County Bar Association, and the Women Lawyer’s Association.

McLaughlin was appointed in 2017 to serve on the Civil Justice Commission of the Missouri Supreme Court and was also a former member of the Missouri Public Defender Commission and the Missouri Sentencing Advisory Commission.

She resides in St. Louis County with her family.
