Judge Navah C. Spero - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Navah C. Spero is a judge for the Vermont Superior Court. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Phil Scott in 2023.

Spero has held assignments in the Criminal and Family Divisions in Chittenden County and has also presided in Lamoille County.

Prior to her appointment, she was a shareholder at Gravel & Shea, P.C. since 2018. Spero, who began with the firm as an associate in 2011, handled civil litigation matters, including commercial disputes, trust and estate conflicts, and negligence cases. She began her legal career as a law clerk with the Superior Court in Washington, D.C. (2010 to 2011).

Spero received a B.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. She then completed a J.D. at George Washington University School of Law in 2010.

While a law student, Spero served as a judicial intern with the United States District Court for the District of Vermont (2008); a legal intern for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (2008); a summer associate at Bernabei & Wachtel, PLLC (2009); and a legal intern in the Civil Division’s Office of Consumer Litigation with the United States Department of Justice (2009).

She was appointed to serve as disciplinary counsel to appear before the Professional Responsibility Board and sat as a member of the Vermont Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure. Spero is a past president of the Chittenden County Bar Association.
