The Hon. Nora Anderson is a surrogate judge of the New York County Surrogate’s Court in New York. She was elected to the Surrogate’s Court in 2009.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Anderson received her B.A. from Hampton University in 1973. She went on to earn her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1982.
Anderson began her legal career as a trial attorney at Legal Aid Society after graduating from law school. Four years later, she would then serve as a senior law clerk for the Hon. Albert P. Williams with the New York Supreme Court.
Anderson then entered into private practice, joining Powell and Andrson as an attorney in 1986. While in private practice, she specialized in employment discrimination and trust and estate planning.
She left the private sector in 1996 to serve as a deputy chief clerk and later chief clerk for the New York County Surrogate’s Court.
Three years later, Anderson was back in private practice, this time as counsel with Seth Rubenstein, PC in Brooklyn. She would remain there until her election to the Surrogate’s Court in 2009.
In 2012, Anderson was censured by the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct for campaign finance manipulation during her 2008 bid for the Surrogate’s Court.
