Judge Patrick J. Heneghan - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Patrick J. Heneghan is an Associate Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. He was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2016. Judge Heneghan is currently assigned to the Tax & Miscellaneous Remedies Section of the Law Division (Calendar 5), where he is also a Supervising Judge.

Heneghan earned a B.S. in Forestry from Southern Illinois University in 1979 and completed his J.D. at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Heneghan clerked for the Hon. Robert L. Vining of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia from 1983 to 1984 and the Hon. Jerre S. Williams of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit from 1984 to 1985. He went into private practice in 1985 and worked as an associate at Reuben & Proctor for two years before becoming a partner at Schopf & Weiss. During his tenure in private practice, Heneghan specialized in commercial litigation.

His memberships have included the Chicago Bar Association’s Committee on Attorney Malpractice, and he has served as president of the Northeast Illinois Council of the Boy Scouts of America, chairman of the NEIC Eagle Scout Committee, and a member of the NEIC Executive Board.

Born and raised in Chicago, Heneghan is an active volunteer at St. Martin de Porres House of Hope.
