Judge Reginald K. Whitehead - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Reginald K. Whitehead is a judge for the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Lawton Chiles on September 1, 1995.

The 9th Judicial Circuit encompasses Osceola County and Orange County. Whitehead has held assignments in both counties, presiding over cases in the Criminal Division, the Domestic Relations Division, the Civil Division, and the Juvenile Division. He also sat as an administrative judge for the Drug Court and the Unified Problem Solving Court.

Prior to his appointment, Whitehead was a judge for the Orange County Court, a position to which he was named in 1994.

Whitehead earned a B.S. in political science from the University of Mississippi in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1986.

After graduating from law school, Whitehead began his legal career as an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to become a partner at Batts & Whitehead.

His memberships have included the Judicial Task Force of the Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services and the Board of Directors of the Orange County Legal Aid Society. He also chaired the Ninth Judicial Circuit Committee on Racial and Ethnic Bias in the Courts.
